Top 5 Movie Moms

With Mother's Day right around the corner, Fox Radio Network decided to take a look back at some of our favorite mothers in movie history. It was extremely hard to narrow down our list of favorites, but as long as we tried our best, we think our mother's would be proud of us!

OUR TOP 5

5. Beatrice Henderson - Mother (1996)

The term "parent's just don't understand" is perfectly epitomized by Beatrice Henderson in the Albert Brooks film, Mother. Debbie Reynolds' portrayal of the mother struggling to keep up with the times can be extremely aggravating, but also undeniably endearing.

4. Mrs. Gump- Forrest Gump (1994)

"Life's a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're gonna get."
Mrs. Gump may have been a simple southern belle, but her easy-to-understand tidbits of wisdom helped to guide Forrest Gump to be the greatest man in (fake) American History.

3. Sarah Connor- Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

She might not be the type of mom that would give you a nice warm hug after a long day of school. She'd more than likely be the type of mom that would beat up the kid that was bullying you. How can you blame her though? Not many women have to worry about Austrian robots from the future trying to kill her. Not only does she have to protect her son and herself, but the entirety of the human race is in her hands. You can't help but cheer for a mom who has got a lot on her plate.

Short monologue from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. I think a lot of people don't understand what's going on in this scene. Sarah is planning to go kill the "man most directly responsible" for the future cataclysm and she does not intend to survive the effort, or perhaps she knows she'll be a lifer in prison.

3. Aurora Greenway- Terms of Endearment (1983)

Disagreements are typically not fun to deal with, especially when they involve someone you love. Though it may seem like mom just doesn't want you to be happy at times, but more often than not, the bitterness comes from a deep source of love and concern.

1. Edna Spalding - Places in the Heart (1984)

It can be really hard to notice the sacrifices a mother makes and how hard a mother has to work. Very few mothers have done more for their family as Edna Spalding. Sally Field's portrayal of the mother who is willing to do whatever it takes for the family to survive earned her an Oscar in 1985. We like you Sally Field. Right now, we like you.

Sally Field describes how harsh circumstances create a winning family in PLACES IN THE HEART. CONNECT WITH AFI: http://AFI.com http://twitter.com/AmericanFilm http://facebook.com/AmericanFilmInstitute
