Casting Crowns coming to the Convocation Center on April 23

Jonesboro, AR- With 8.8 million albums sold to date—including one RIAA Double Platinum Album, four Platinum and six Gold records, and two Platinum and four Gold DVDs—Casting Crowns remains the top- selling act in Christian music since 2007. The award-winning group—consisting of Mark Hall (lead singer/songwriter), Melodee DeVevo (violin, cello, vocals), Brian Scoggin (drums), Megan Garrett (piano, keyboards, vocals), Juan DeVevo (guitar, vocals), Chris Huffman (bass guitar, vocals) and Josh Mix (lead guitar, vocals)—got its start as a youth group worship band originally based in Florida.

Building on a strong foundation forged by their self-titled major label debut in 2003 that went Double Platinum, Casting Crowns has earned six GRAMMY nominations, winning a GRAMMY for the band’s 2005 effort, Lifesong. In addition, over the past decade, Casting Crowns has garnered 17 GMA Dove Awards, three American Music Awards and two Billboard Music Awards, among others. Most recently, the band was named Artist of the Year exclusively by fans at the 2014 K-LOVE Fan Awards.

Their chart-topping songs—including “Who Am I,” “Voice of Truth,” “Praise You In This Storm,” “Until The Whole World Hears,” “Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me),” “Courageous” and “Jesus, Friend of Sinners”—have earned them nine No. 1 hits at radio and four RIAA Gold certified digital singles.

Their tours have taken them all over the world, helping to spread the Gospel message globally. The band was the only U.S. musical act hand-picked to perform at a nationally-televised arts festival in North Korea in 2007 and was invited back again in 2009. Meanwhile, in the States, the band continues to sell-out arenas across the country. In fact, “The Altar and the Door Tour” set attendance records in the U.S. with 450,000 tickets sold in 83 markets and was ranked as the top-grossing Christian tour of the 2007/2008 season according to Pollstar.

Casting Crowns’ has consistently delivered songs that spur listeners to evaluate their relationship with God and others. Casting Crowns’ career sales have exceeded 5 million records.

The Best Commercials from the Super Bowl

The Denver Broncos are Super Bowl Champions and the Carolina Panthers aren't dabbing on anyone this morning. We all know who won the big game, but who won the game within the game. Here are the best commercials that aired during Super Bowl 50.

Which were your favorite? Did we miss your favorite ad? Tell us in the comments below!

Michelob Ultra: Breathe

Pardon our bias, but we are very proud of Poplar Bluff native, Chelsea Edmundson, who appeared in this commercial for Michelob Ultra.

Hyundai: First Date

It seems like Kevin Hart is everywhere right now, and while some of us might be getting tired of his "schtick," the comedian's appearance in this Hyundai ad is pretty fantastic. Not only do we get to see some cool new features that Hyundai has to offer, but we also get to see Hart escalate the ridiculousness of the ad at an alarming rate.

Audi: The Commander

We don't often talk about great storytelling when it comes to commercials, but Audi's promo for the new R8 is stunning on multiple levels. The ad tells a beautiful story of a retired astronaut rediscovering that feeling of excitement and adventure, the music in the background is David Bowie's "Starman," the visuals are very compelling, and hey, the car looks pretty cool too!

Jeep: Portraits

Fiat Chrysler's homage to 75 years of Jeep was a great look into the past. Regardless of which generation of Jeep you are most familiar with, there was something that everyone could relate or connect to, whether it be a military background to enjoying Jeff Goldblum's weird laugh in Jurassic Park.

Toyota Prius: The Longest Chase

Okay, the ad is pretty fun, but if you happen to be a fan of HBO's hit series "The Wire," you were in for an absolute treat. The pacing of the ad made it hard to recognize them at first, but this commercial is a fantastic reunion for Ziggy, Frank, and Nick Sobotka of the second season of "The Wire." We know it's the "weakest" season of the show, but it is still top notch when you compare it to just about everything else out there.

Mini USA: Defy Labels

We appreciate the message of this commercial, and everyone else who is in it (not excluding the great Serena Williams and Tony Hawk), but Harvey Keitel... enough said.

Honda: A New Truck to Love

We couldn't tell you anything about this truck, but this commercial has sheep singing Queen's "Somebody to Love" and a talking dog.

Doritos: Ultrasound

It might not be our favorite ad. Actually, it made some of us uncomfortable. We have to give credit where credit is due though. This is the commercial had the most effective "did that just happen" moment, and people are talking about whether or not it went too far. We assume that's what Doritos wanted, and they absolutely succeeded.

Cards Reach Agreement with Maness, Moss, and Rosenthal; Avoid Salary Arbitration

ST. LOUIS, Mo., January 15, 2016 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have agreed to one-year deals with pitcher Seth Maness, infielder/outfielder Brandon Moss and closer Trevor Rosenthal, avoiding salary arbitration.  First baseman Matt Adams remains the team’s lone unsigned arbitration eligible player.

Maness, 26, pitched in a career high 76 games last year, T5th most in the National League.  His 11 double plays induced last season were T4th among N.L. relievers with 39 double plays over the past three seasons, the most in MLB.  Maness tied for the N.L. lead with 59 inherited runners in 2015.

Moss, 32, was acquired from Cleveland at the trade deadline (July 30) last season.  He hit 19 homers and collected 58 RBI between the two clubs.

Rosenthal set the Cardinals franchise single-season record with 48 saves in 2015, and leads all MLB pitchers with 93 saves over the past two seasons.  The 25-year-old became the first pitcher in franchise history to post consecutive 45-save seasons and just the 7th in MLB history.

Merle Haggard Coming to Jonesboro

Thursday, March 3 @ 7:30 PM
Doors: 6:30 PM
Ticket Prices: $75, $50 & $35
*Plus Applicable Service Fees*

Jonesboro, AR- For one night only, country music legend, Merle Haggard will be in Jonesboro, Arkansas, joined by Marty Stuart on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Legend is almost an understatement to describe Haggard who has been in the music industry for over five decades. Known for writing revolutionary and prolific lyrics, he blended elements of jazz, rock, blues and folk music into his arrangements, while staying true to the traditions of country.  He has released 47 albums, found his songs at the top of the charts with 40 #1 hits, he has won just about every music award imaginable as a performer and a songwriter, and in 1994 was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Merle Ronald Haggard was born in 1937, outside Bakersfield, California. His parents, Jim and Flossie, moved the family there after their farm in Oklahoma burned down, with Jim finding work as a carpenter for the Santa Fe Railroad. The family lived in an old boxcar that they converted into a home. Though struggling to make a meager living, they had a sturdy shelter and food was always on the table.

Things changed dramatically after Jim died of a stroke when Merle was nine years old. It was a devastating event for the young boy, who was very close to his father. His mother went to work as a bookkeeper to make ends meet, often leaving Merle in the care of a great aunt and uncle. With his world turned upside down, Haggard turned rebellious. He hopped a freight train when he was just ten years old, making it to Fresno before being picked up by the authorities. It was the first step toward a youth of truancy from school and petty crime. For the next few years, Haggard would find himself in reform schools, sometimes making an escape, only to get thrown back in again. Later he would find himself in and out of prison as well.

Haggard's music was his way out of a dead-end life of small crimes and intermittent jail time. Released from San Quentin in 1960, he joined the then thriving Bakersfield country scene, which eschewed the smooth country-politan sound coming out of Nashville for a harder-hitting honky-tonk groove.

After making an impression working in local clubs, Haggard joined Las Vegas star Wynn Stewart's band in 1962 as a bassist. When he got a chance to record his own single, Haggard chose the Stewart composition, "Sing A Sad Song." It came out on the small Tally Records label in 1964, and made it into the Top Twenty. His follow up singles didn't do quite as well, until "(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers" went into the Top Ten and brought him to the attention of Capitol Records. He proved himself a hit maker with three Top Ten singles in 1967, including his first#1, "The Fugitive."   The rest, as they say, is history.

For over forty years, the five-time Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, photographer, and historian Marty Stuart has been building a rich legacy. Native of Mississippi, Stuart got his start in Johnny Cash's back-up band. In 1986 he started his solo career and released album Marty Stuart scoring his first hit with the song "Arlene."

“I've always thought that country music had a really unique relationship with gospel music,” Stuart says. “It is interesting to me that country stars can sing drinking and cheating songs authentically, then at some point during the evening or the broadcast, take their hats off and say, 'Friends, here's our gospel song.' If it’s the right messenger it seamlessly flows. That's a time-honored tradition, from Jimmie Rodgers to Hank Williams to Johnny Cash. Rogue prophets and rogue preachers. That is my world!”

Both artists bring their magical talents to Jonesboro on March 3.  Tickets for this outstanding night of entertainment will go on-sale Friday, January 15 at 10:00 a.m.   To purchase tickets in person to go the Convocation Center Central Box Office, order by phone at 870-972-2781 or 800-745-3000, or on-line at Ticketmaster.com.  For more information regarding this show go to AStateConvo.com
